Discus Fish Feeding – Discuss Fish Secrets
Discus fish feeding requirements depends on the stage and the size of the fish. A young discus fish around 5 centimeters in length is fed four to five times daily. Older fish that are around 10 centimeters can be fed just twice daily. Growing fish need more nutrients and will take in less food during each feeding.

Discus is regarded as the most beautiful fish in freshwater aquarium. Discus fish are small, bright, tropical fish that are native to the Amazon rain forest. They are naturally carnivorous, but are excellent fish to keep in an aquarium. They can be very picky eaters, and require more than simple flake fish food. It’s important to know what to feed and how often to feed discus fish to keep them healthy, happy and colorful.
When you buy a pair of discus fish, you must first ask what the recent diet of the fish by the time you purchase it. They will usually eat the food that they are used, they you may continue feeding them the same food. Discus fishes are carnivorous, so you may add live frozen food to their diet like blood worms and frozen brine shrimp.
Make sure you feed adult discus once a day and young discus fish three times a day. Discus fishes are grazers, so feed them several times a day with a food that slowly sinks to the bottom. Allow them to eat for two hours and feed the discus fish small amount of food.
Though discus needs a good supply of protein, it’s not recommended to feed them solely with protein. They need a variety of foodstuffs in order to keep them healthy. An alternative food to feed them is black worms and cone worms. The use of discus pellet to feed them regularly is also a good option. You also have to take note on the type of food that have an appeal to your discus and feed them.
