camera beginner needs advice from the experts please?
I,m a beginner as far as cameras are concerned recently retired and need a hobby.I breed tropical fish and would like to photo them[in tanks]i,m also interested in wildlife- birds etc so would like to combined the two.It would need to be a digital camera so i can do my own prints on pc.can i get a camera that can zoom for wildlife but still take close ups?not too expensive middle range i could manage.thank you for any help you can give me.

For taking pictures of wildlife, you will need a camera with a long optical zoom. Most cameras have a macro setting for close ups so that should not be a problem, but make sure you have manual control with aperture priority, shutter priority or both. There is a wide range of prices available so really depends on how much you want to spend.
At the bottom of the price range and something of a bargain because it has been around for a while is the Fuji S5700 available from Amazon.co.uk for £85. If you are happy to double that, there is the Fuji S8000fd or S8100fd, which extend the zoom range and add some features.
Cameras with long zoom lens really need a very good Optical Image Stabilizer or a tripod as it is very difficult to hold the camera steady enough to avoid blurry photos caused by camera shake. If you are happy to spend £225, I can recommend the Panasonic FZ28 which has an excellent OIS system.
Don’t pay more just for more MegaPixels. Once you go past about 6-7MP, it really doesn’t make any noticeable difference unless you plan to print huge poster size photos.
Try to visit a store to handle the camera(s) you are interested in to make sure you are happy with the ergonomics.
Taking pictures of tropical fish is actually harder than it sounds. You cannot use flash because of the reflection off the glass. Too slow a shutter speed will result in blur caused by movement of the fish. Don’t be dissapointed with your first attempts if they are not stunning. Buy a book or two to read up on the subject.

Edit: I have been giving the fish photography some more thought and I am worried that you might be dissapointed with the results from the cameras that have been suggested by me and others. Read as much as you can about how to shoot fish in a tank before commiting to buy. I have just tried a shot of fish in my aquarium under the aquarium lights and only got a shutter speed of 1/26 at f2.8 and ISO800. The fish was not moving very fast but were still not sharp in the photo so 1/50 would be better but that would need ISO1600. I feel you may need to consider a low end Dslr like the Nikon D40 now available for under £250 from Amazon (no need for the more expensive D40x) for this purpose. (However the price will go over budget if you factor in a long zoom lens for the wildlife and a flashgun with a bounce head). The Dslr will give you the option of off-camera flash using the hotshoe (the flash can be positioned above the tank so there would not be any reflections) and much better picture quality at high ISOs (non-dslrs give very grainy results at high ISOs like those I have mentioned above). If you are breeding the fish, I suspect you will want better quality shots than the snaps you will get from non-Dslr cameras. Alternatively, if you buy one of the cheaper alternatives from Amazon to try out, they have a very good return policy if you are not happy.
