Diy Fish Tank Cooler

Nano Freshwater Tank?

I had a 1 gallon tank and some cool gravel sitting around, and I have decided to set up a nano freshwater tank, and I’m looking for suggestions on a couple small fish to put in it. I’m pretty sure I want some ghost shrimp and some live plants, and I know I’m going to filter it (I’m making a DIY filter). At first I wanted to go with a single dwarf puffer, but they need more size, so I’m looking elsewhere. Any suggestions? I have a limited supply, so they have to be pretty common fish.
sorry if you misunderstood, soopnazi, but it is a one gallon tank, not a ten gallon. I wouldn’t be asking if it were a ten. I don’t really know what kind of fish is small enough to fit in a 1 gallon but doesn’t school. Thank you for the wonderful suggestions though!

Yeah, it would appear that way… Instead of fish, consider shrimp and snails… Such a small volume of water will make rapid fluctuations in temperature, pH, and nitrogenous compounds almost constant. Fish cannot tolerate this, but most shrimp (Red Cherry, Ghost, Crystal Red, Orange Bee, Bumblebee, Pearl, and a Amano/Japonica Shrimp) would be perfect for such a micro tank. Most species will eat algae off of plants and breed (Ghosts won’t eat algae and Amano/Japonicas won’t breed). A few Malaysian Trumpet Snails would be good as well to aerate the substrate (and, they won’t bother the plants).
