Why are certain eheims so expensive?
I noticed that the fluval fx5 handles 400 gallons of water and has an amazing flow rate over 900gph. This filter is about $300. Why is a eheim which can handle only 100 gallons more expensive than this filter?
There is a premium for the name but they’ve earned it..
I use the classics models as there far cheaper and very proven design.
your point still stands though the newer models are unnaturally expensive, but someone has to be the top dog.
It’s not unheard of for these filters to last well over 10 years. So if you lucky to get 4 out of a fluval…hmmmmm
If you compare with the classic models the prices get more inline.
And watch out what a high gph infers…..
Ehiems always have a far lower gph than the lower quality models…

the gph on the eheim is 2/3 that of the rena. why?
Because the bio-media (spintered glass, the best bio-media in the world) is so effcient it needs far less contact with the water to remove just as much waste.
The rena bio-media is far less effective and needs 1.6 times more contact with the water to remove the same amount of waste.
The lower gph to proves the efficiency of the filter as both are rated roughly for the same size fully stocked tank.
If you want everything blowing around in your tank get the rena.
If you want a gentle natural flow of a tropical current get the eheim.
