Fish Tank Algae Control

How do I grow algae in a bucket for my fish?
I tried google, but best I could find was something on coralline algae. I want algae to feed my freshwater otos. Lights in my tank are on 12+ hrs/day but algae isn’t growing IN the tank, and I don’t want to move it near a window incase I can’t control algae growth. Any ideas on growing algae in a bucket?
Been down this road…..
I used baby food jars in a window with some fish food in them. Just unscrew the cap and put in the jar when its all green…chomp chomp chomp
some people put rocks in shallow water outside with some fishflakes to grow algae on the rocks…
Bottom line..
Otto’s will adapt and eat shrimp pellets, flake food and complete sinking food tablets no problem…but almost never algae tabs..weird I know.
In the wild they eat micro algae (green water) and not really the algae you can visibly see.
zuchinni and cucumbers are favs too….
all time consuming and a pain…
As much fun as it was to try i found the best thing to do was nothing but give them a chance to feed at night when they were less nervous.
just drop in a sinking tablet and off they went trying to eat it.
good luck
