Fish Tank Algaecide
Why did algaecide kill every living thing in my tank?
I got this product to kill the algae right. Found here: http://aquariumpharm.com/Products/Product.aspx?ProductID=52
so my mom puts in 7 drops and then we head off to the movies.
Then we come back and everyone of my fish and snails are dead, all of them.
What kind of product is this company selling. On the packaging it says safe for fish but not crustaceans.
Do you think this product should be taken off the market? I got it at Wal-Mart and the algae was still there when my fish died.
Well its a 5 gallon, I had guppies and snails.
Also the product was inside the water..well its hard to tell because we went to the movies,
but by the way everything in there died, it looked like could of been 15 minutes because they died.
Anything with an active ingredient called “dimethyliminoethylene dichloride, ethoxylate” just has to be a bit suspect to add to a fish tank.
It IS toxic to fish if you overdose it, and if you have a lot of algae then all it does if give you a tank of dead rotting algae, and then that kills the fish.
Work on controlling the algae by reducing the amouunt of light, reducing the nutrients by water changes, let the snails eat some and then just clean off the little thats left by hand.
Much safer than pouring toxic chemicals in the tank.
