Fish Tank Electric Bill

How much would a Fish tank use in electricity?
I want to buy a 300 watt heater along with a Emperor 400 filter and a 60 gal tank with flourcent light.
I will be paying for everything and of course for the fish, but my cheap father doesn’t
want to pay for supposly “high” electric power use each month and cause of that he doesnt let me get it. I’m 18 years old and can’t even buy my own fishes…..
I live in Southern California if that helps (LAWater and Power)
I will pay for the bill if i have to, but i would like an idea how much would it be so i can shove it in my dads face for being so dam cheap
The energy hog of a freshwater tank is the heater, and it’s only on part time. The filter is on full time, and it can run as high as 25 watts(You should be able to smell the sarcasm in that last statement, even in print, lol)
All told, unless it has specialty lighting for high light plants or a reef set-up, it may cost one or two dollars a month in electricity.
Heater 300 watts- only on part time
Light 40 watts(80 if double tube)- also only on part time
Filter up to 25 watts- on full time
A full hood covering will reduce water evaporation and some minimal cooling effect, saving a very small but measurable amount of water and electricity. The drier your air, the more it will save.(Plus, some of the most entertaining fish are escape artists, with them, a tight fitting lid is just good sense.)
