Fish Tank Gravel Cleaner Instructions

Betta Fish Care help??!?

Hi, I am thinking about buying a Betta Fish. I already have a 10 gallon tank filled wih fish (not betta tank mates) and i have owned the tank for over 10 years. My father usually cleans the tank and maintains the water temperature, so we know basic fish care. However, I am interested in getting a Betta fish. I would have to care for it all on my own and it would most likely live in my room. I was wondering if a 1/2 gallon tank would be ok, with a plant and gravel. I was also wondering what temperature to keep the water at and if tap water is ok to use. I would also like some instructions on how to set up a good home for my new betta. (water temp, space, etc.) Thanks
Is a heating system also nessesary?
If i were to use the 1/2 gallon tank, what heater would be good? the link that was given to me was for 2+ gallon tanks. im afraid it will be too hot.
I live in southern cali. btw

2.5 gallons is what i recommend. 1/2 is way too small to keep a betta.
