is this what i need to start a saltwater tank?

ok am i right for a 10 gallon tank with 2 clown fish in it

i have a old freshwater tank and i am gonna turn it into a saltwater tank with no corals

10 pounds of live rock
10-15lbs of sand
1 good filter
1 power head
a portion skimmer(not needed but something i may need to look into)
i still have the freshwater tank light, its fluorescent, with a tad of a purple tint color light to it.
fish food
salt
buckets
gravel cleaner
snails and hermit crabs
the fish.
hood
heater
and once a week i should test the water for the ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite, and ph

Also do u buy the water at the pet store? i never notice it there before? like with fresh u declorate it? what do u do when u add new water to the fish tank? a little confused on the water part.,

your forgetting about the intangible stuff…. knowledge…. and research.

In fishkeeping and saltwater keeping even more so. The smaller the tank size the harder it will be to keep the tank stable. A 10 gallon saltwater tank is really an expert level aquarium because the size is so small. It isnt impossible as I have a 10g Reef Tank about 4 feet away from me but I have worked with reefs for 2 years. The reason why a 10 gallon is difficult because water chemistry is affected more in smaller volumes than in larger volumes. And even more so in saltwater as there are more varibles and the fishes are much more sensitive.

You will need to research alot about water chemistry and saltwater.

If you were to progress with this aquarium being your first, you will need to test everyday and know how to adjust accordingly. Also you will need to pick up a hydrometer which is a must. A hydrometer will test your salinity of the water. Saltwater being 1.020-1.025 specific gravity or 33 PPT.

You will not need a protein skimmer but always good to have. and you will not need to upgrade your lighting. I wouldnt consider reef or coral for at least 8 months of establishment or research in advanced marine chemistry. Also i cant stress enough that you will basically need to treat this as a new aquarium. You will need to clean it out and cycle again. And for a 10 no more than 2 clownfish. This is already pushing the bio-load.

For saltwater…. It will be cheaper in the long run to learn how to make your own. Basically it is add tap water or even better…. RO/DI water… Add de-clorinator. And then add your salt. Hence the hydrometer to measure the salinity. Your best adding the water slowly into the filter or sump if you choose to go with this.
