Freshwater Fish Tank Filtration

Asking my last tank question?
Well this question is all about sand ive looked all over the internet and i cant find any good sites that tell about sand.
So any people that have sand let me know what i will need to have sand in my tank. Will i need a larger filtration system?
Where can i find sand specifically for freshwater fish tanks that wont change the ph balance or water hardness?
Or is their a type of sand i can find online or at wal-mart or some other super store that would be acceptable to use in my tank?
Thank you all for your serious answer especially a guy called bob hes been Very helpful
Thanks you guys alot for the simple straight up answer! im not gonna choose a best answer cause they were both good thank you both
No special filtration is needed if keeping a sand substrate. You can not however, use an under gravel filter with sand.
What sand you use depends on your aesthetic taste, the fish you keep, your budget, and whether you’ll include live plants in your setup.
The best aquarium sand, hands down, is Tahitian Moon Sand. It is black. You really can’t beat this stuff for overall. But, it’s expensive as ‘ell. Expect to pay $25.00+ for 20lbs.
There are a lot of other sand types that can be found at just about any good LFS. Any of them should be fine.
Pool sand is another option. This will not alter your water parameters, and will be safe for your fish. With pool sand, you can often find a variety of grain sizes. Pool sand will be off white to light brown. It is super affordable. This should run around $10.00 for 50lbs.
You can find pool sand at any pool supply store.
The last, and least desirable sand is play sand, which can be found at just about any big box store. While this is technically safe to use in aquariums, it compacts tightly, making it unconducive to growing plants, and allowing for the possibility of toxic gas pockets. I’d skip this stuff.
Good luck.
