Glass Fish Tank Glue

Fish Maze..quick answers needed?

I am making a fish maze.
It is a rectangle.
The width of the short sides is 11 inches, and for the long side it is 14 inches.
I am having trouble with the height.
I only have a limited supply of glass..so what is a reasonable height for a fish? (the fish live in a tank!) 5.5 in? 4.5 in? 4 in? somewhere around those numbers?

And also should I glue the walls on the outside of the base, or the inside?

Answer a.s.a.p please!

Thank you! =]

What type of fish are you working with? As long as the water is deep enough for the fish to swim, that’s all you really need. If you’re working with smaller species like guppies, platies, danios, etc. you could have the walls as short as 2 inches, but if you’re using larger fish or deep-bodied species, you’d need a deeper maze. I’d think as long as it was 1.5 to 2 times as deep as the fish is tall (including fins) you’ll be fine.

One thing to think about also is that as you net a fish and put it into the maze, it may not move from it’s starting point right away, so the shallower the water, the closer the fish is to the oxygenated water at the surface (I’m assuming you aren’t going to use any airstones or filter). But you may want to have a net or something you can stretch across the top of the tank to prevent fish that are just put in from becoming jumpers.

As far as where to attach the walls along the outside, I don’t know that it would matter that much, as long as the bottom seams are well supported. I’d put the entire maze into a wood frame to keep the water from pushing the sides out (another way short sides will help – less water pressure). Wood along the outside may also keep the fish from becoming distracted by movement outside the tank.
