Fluval U4 + 37g tank = OK current for Betta?
Will the Hagen Fluval U4 underwater filter create too much current for a Betta Splendens?
It will be used in a 37 gallon planted aquarium, and I know the filter has an adjustable current flow.
Product descriptions on the ‘net say the Fluval U4 has “an integrated spray bar ideal for even, gentle flow for planted aquariums” – so it sounds like it may work, but I’ve never seen one in action.
I’ve never used a Fluval filter either, but if it creates an even, gentle flow it should be fine. The easiest way to tell is to to put him in it and watch him. If he seems to be constantly blown about and fighting against the current, it isn’t going to work. If he seems okay with the current, it will be fine. I’ve had bettas in some decent current and just provided them with java fern where they could twine themselves into the leaves and rest, and the leaves seemed to block the current so they were just fine if they stayed around the plants or downstream of the plants.
