Koi Clam

How do you take care of mini crabs fiddlers?
Hi I had 5 fiddlers crabs now down to one that seems to barely eat as it once did (could be molting). There was an ick problem resolved with Rid-Ick Malachite Green. I would like to add more. I have a beautiful setup 55 gal, with Koi, Sand gravel, planted well, snails, freshwater clams, and one Albino Clawed Frog. I have drift wood that comes out of the water for him to spend time out of the water.
Koi are freshwater fish, and will have stunted growth in a 55 gallon tank. You might want to consider moving them to a pond. They are not suitable tankmates to your brackish water fiddler crabs because the crabs need a higher level of salt in the water than the koi will tolerate.
You didn’t mention what your temperature was, but it has to be 75-85 F (24-29 C) for the crabs to be comfortable.
The crabs might have had an issue with the Rid-Ick treatment. They are invertebrates and are sensitive to malachite green. You should have separated the fish and then treated them in a hospital tank so as not to expose your crabs to the medication.
What are you feeding your crabs? They need a varied diet, several different types of food so they can get enough nutrients. It’s hard for them to make their shell and survive if they’re malnourished, and no single food has enough nutrients to be a balanced diet in itself.
Also, you might want to increase the amount of space available to the crabs out of water. If they don’t have enough space, then one female will kill the other crabs. Fine sand is a necessity, as the crabs ingest it and get nutrients from the tiny microorganisms that live in the sand.
If your crab is molting, remember not to remove the old shell as the crab will consume it partially and get minerals from it.
There are several issues here, but your 55 gallon tank will be a good home for fiddler crabs after you resolve them.
