Ugh.. It sounds like I m getting and Oscar and I m under prepared!?

So a couple of my guy friends told me they needed a tank. So i gave them a spare 5.5gallon tank thinking it was for feeder fish or something, since it s not usful for much else. Then they told me what it was for… It was for a Tiger Oscar for there science fair project : what type of food does a Tiger Oscar prefer? I was stunned and I am loaning them a 29gallon tank (another spare) and they have now informed me, that the fish will most likely fall into my hand. I have no experiance with fish and only know the basics (since I have land hermit crabs I have 2 pools with filters…) What do I need to know, are there any fish forums ex.

Oscars are not the easiest fish to look after i have a 7 year old oscar in a 125 gallon tank well hes hubby’s but i look after him

A baby oscar for a few weeks could live in a 29 gallon tank but a bare minimum for juvenile is 55 gallons 75 gallons for a mature oscar

I would try to talk them out of this putting an oscar in even your 29 gallon tank leaves it open to Hole in the head ammonia and nitrite problems and death its not fair on the oscar to do this to him its Animal cruelty

making your own food is much cheaper and so much better…I feed my oscars a mixture of omega one flakes, hikari cichlid pellets, lettuce, cucumbers, fresh raw shrimp, blood worms, zucchini, fresh garlic, vita chem, with a vitamin c pill all in a blender …then mix 6-7 tsps of gelatin to that mixture and freeze it in ice cube container….it makes a ton and last forever .. feeder fish are a huge cause of hole in the head disease for oscars so not recommended unless its a very reputable store that breeds their own feeders and doesnt have them shipped in from elsewhere
