huge aquarium problem anyone help?10 points!?
i need help with my 55 gallon freshwater aquarium! its been running for about 4 months and this is whats in it right now, cleaned slate, play sand, plants, pvc pipes, Ceramic pot, penguin 350 filter,heater,light and 2 convict cichlids and 25+ fry. the problem is that the water is discolored(tan) and there are brown algae looking spots on the glass, there was driftwood in the aquarium but i took that out thinking that was the source of the discoloration but it wasn’t. i do frequent water changes as well. but im now thinking its the sand…which posses a major problem, how do i get it out of my tank with 2 pairs of convicts and lots of fry? the only other fish tank i have is a 20 gallon community freshwater tank. so can anyone please help?
i used to use playsand in my aquariums, i nearly blew my brains outtttt!!!!!!!!!!!, despite 40 percent water changes weekly, stirring the sand up with every water change, and about 20x the filtration of the tanks capacity, i constantly had the rotten egg odor and discolored water, heres your best bet, to avoid stressing the fish and turning this into a big ordeal, every water change just sucks up the sand through the python, thats what i did, took about 10 water changes, as i continued to do it it became such a thing layer that i just eventually added some fine gravel and some gravel from my already established tank, i would avoid messing with the tank and netting fry at all costs, just suck the sand thru the python until it has a very thin layer left, easiest way to go bout it in my opinoin
