Quiet Fish Tank Air Pump
Air pump on betta tank is too loud, what to I do?
Just bought my betta a new 3 gallon tank kit from walmart. I really like it, however the pump it came with was really loud and got really hot after a while. So I hooked it up to the old pump from my other tank. Its still a little loud and I put my ear up to the tank and it sounds even more loud and annoying in there. Do you think it bothers the fish? The bubbles seem to entertain him but Im worried about the noise it makes. Sometimes he will play with the bubbles and others he just sits at the bottom flaring. It might be bothering him. Is there any way to make the air pump and stone quieter, or should I return the tank and get a different one? Also, is it necessary to even have one with 3 gallons? Thanks.
if you got a filter on the tank that hangs on the back no you dont air filters are only needed with sponge filters or under gravel filters. if the air stone just sets in the tank you dont need it if it goes in a tube (under gravel filter) you need it. a filter will put enough air in the tank water. whisper pumps are good from what i here. if you are going to run a air pump use a gang valve with a back flow with it.you can get them at any pet store if you lose power water will come back up the tube and drain your tank and soak everything and cause electric fires and such when power is turned back on, a back flow will prevent this they are under $5.00 ask any one at the store about this you need one if your running a air pump.
