A bio-wheel on a saltwater tank?

I was told by a guy at the Local fish store that bio-wheels are no good when it comes to saltwater tanks. He said they are designed for freshwater use and can actually cause more harm then good for a saltwater tank. The thing is that i already own a penguin 200 with bio-wheel and would rather not get another filter if possible.
I’m planning on putting together a 10 gallon nano-Reef Tank with 10 lbs live rock, live sand, some mushroom and zoanthid corals and maybe one small fish.
Should I use my penguin or just suck it up and get another filter?

In just a fish only tank bio-wheels are fine in fish only with live rock or Reef Tanks there can cause problems because bacteria often colonize the bio-wheel and not the rock. There is no problem keeping your filter simply remove the biowheel from it, it will run fine without it
