How to grow good algae for Salt water.?

I have no plant life in Reef Tank or nothing natural for my scavengers to feed on but diatoms. Do I just need to supplement something or can I do something to grow my own.

feed your fish nori supplements (depending on the fish) or feed them RDF formula #2, which has some good stuff in it

If you grow macro algae, go for chaetomorpha, it will suck up excess nutrients and only grow on itself which makes for easy removal, be warned though, it would be better to have in a refugium (so you can feed the main tank parts or it whenever you want), cause my emerald crabs destroyed and ate all my chaeto

I had a yellow tang that loved to eat red caleurpa too, read up on all marco algaes before you buy
