Reptile Snake or Lizard?
I am 13 and i want a pet snake or lizard for christmas, but i have two problems
1) my mum doesnt like snakes or lizards whats the soloution
2) i already have two cats so will the snake/lizard get attacked or will attack
and i would prefer a snake/lizard that feeds in morning and night and likes fruit as well as its meaty diets, also one the doesnt bite nd is freindly. my friend has a pet corn snake which is 6 months old which i adore and is jealous.

Hi Tom,
Both lizards and snakes are contained in cages so you shouldn’t have a problem with your cats. Never let the lizrd/snake out of the cage unattended as that’s when accidents happen! Corn snakes are very docile snakes but they are very quick and jumpy so you must keep a real good eye on them when yuo handle them. Everyone gets bitten now and again so you might get bitten while you learn more about your pets behaviour. Beared dragons are lovely reptiles and very friendly.
Whichever pet you get, you will need to clean their cages and make sure you change the water every day. They also need very specific conditions with the temperature and humidity so you need to make sure you can care for them properly. maybe go to a reptile store and look at the different pets available and talk to the staff there who will be able to give you some advice. I have a pet snake and it’s a lot harder to care for than I first thought so you must be prepared!! If your mum doesn’t like snakes or lizards then she might not be able to help you with it or feed/clean it when you can’t for any reason. Even friendly, docile reptiles can be agressive at times. They are not cuddly and affectionate like cats and dogs and will bite you if they feel threatened so you need to know how to handle them properly. And all baby reptiles will grow bigger and some snakes can get to 5 feet so you need to be able to have the space to house them properly.
If you are serious about getting a reptile, speak to some breeders or staff at a reptile shop who can tell you all about what they eat, how big they get, their temperaments and what environments they need so you can decide if you are able to look after them properly. Take your mum with you to see if she grows to like them or not as if your mum really doesn’t like them, it’s a little unfair on her to get one.
