Saltwater Fish Tank Algae Problem
can i do my weekly saltwater change with the fish inside the aquarium? Also live rock algae problem.?
My saltwater aquarium has cycled already recently. I am new to this hobby and though I have searched the net on procedures of weekly water changes, it doesnt say if its ok to do this with the fishes inside the aquarium. How do i go about the water change without stressing the small clownfishes, damsels?
Also, my live rock has started to grow some algae. I tried using the powerhead to blow it off but didnt work. Can i actually get the live rock out of the tank and brush the algae out? Im still looking for sellers of snails and hermit crabs available in my area to help with the algae problem.
Water changes are supposed to be done with the fish in the tank – to chase them down, remove them to a storage container, and then put them back is infinitely more stressful.
I wouldn’t recommend removing the rocks to clean the algae – you want them to mature with the rest of the tank. Control algae by doing water changes regularly, caring for the filter, using the right equipment (protein skimmer), using a pure water source (you may want to test your tap water for nitrates and phosphates), not overfeeding, and obtaining algae eating livestock.
