Saltwater Reef Tank Sale
Could someone help me to start a sump system for my saltwater aquarium?
I’m running a regular filter like for a fresh water so far so good the only thing is that i have to keep up with the maintenance a lot. I have live rock, 2 true percs, blue chromes, their doing grate but now i want to start building my reef and for the research that I’ve done i don’t think that what I’m running is going to enough to support my future reef. I have a 60g tank and needed to know what size of sump would i need to start a better filtration for my tank? Also wanted to know if store sale the whole equipment like the pipes together with the sump system is does it have to be bought separately?. Thanks for the help.
You are right that what you are running will not support a future reef set up unless you restrict yourself to low light soft corals. All you might need for those would be a sump with more live rock in it and a really good protein skimmer.
You might want to consider using the 60 gallon tank as the sump or as a refugium, and using a larger tank, a 120 or the bigger the better, as the main tank. Small Reef Tanks usually end up being replaced with larger ones, so you might actually be saving some money by starting out as big as you have a space for. Craigs list, and the local reef club forums on ReefCentral are a good source for used Reef Tanks and equipment. There are always people moving, upsizing, and so there are some good bargains if you shop around.
In theory the total size of a reef system should be 5000 gallons. So the sump should be the difference to bring the system up to this volume, at which point water becomes much more stable. However it is practical only for public aquariums or commercial establishments like Tropicorium to take advantage of this factor, so simply go with “bigger is better”.
