Ok so I tihnk I want a reptile i kinda have limited space in that the enclosure will i have a tank 29 gallons glass I fish there now, but I want to get rid them to get on my nerves I just give them ot my friend, he has a bigger tank I have the screen cover, light fluroscent, and the reservoir of course, now there is a small problem I live in New York and here all the boas and pythons are illegal which sucks because I want a ball, but phython I saw them in pet stores, as it is good pet discount land across the street from my apartment and one of the people working there walks around with a ball python on her neck sometimes if I do not have any idea how do they get so will I need? and the snake will be a good start with i have something colorful, something can be red or green or bright yellow color
First, it is better to know that you want a reptile, do not think you want a reptile. They are not your average pet and requires very specific needs. If you think you might get tired of them like you're tired of your fish (although I personally think that reptiles are much more interesting), they are probably not the pet for you. You must be very committed and responsible and do a lot of research beforehand. Snakes (most snakes, that is, there are some exceptions) do not need fluorescent lights. They need heat. Depending on the species you choose, they will need different temperature gradients that must be met exactly. Ball pythons are often recommended as serpents good "beginner", but the truth they are not. They often (especially those in the pet shops!) Off of food for many months, which is very stressful for the snake and guardian. Looks like you'll want to go with a colubrid, corn snakes, black rat snakes, king snakes and milk snakes are all great pets for beginners keeper. Corn snakes are the most popular and come in a wide variety of beautiful "flavors", or color morphs, all bright red to all white to purple. A corn snake could live his life in a acqarium 29 gallons, but remember they have also need specific temperatures on either side of the compound and a specific humidity. Here are some great sites with information on corn snakes. http://www.anapsid.org/corn.html http://www.kingsnake.com/rockymountain/RMHPages/RMHnewpage11.htm Remember, if you do not the forum set up to accommodate all the needs of the snake, it will become very sick very quickly, requiring frequent travel vet (not cheap!), and perhaps the death of the snake. Read everything you can, and your snake will live a long healthy and happy life! Good luck! Snakes are pets fun if well cared for. If you have any questions, feel free to message me.
