Tropical Fish Tank Algae Problem

tropical fish tank algae problem
Is there a coldwater snail or other algae eater?

Hi, there. I have a big tank with two young comet goldfish. Part of it gets some sun, and I’ve been having problems keeping up with the algae. It started as just brown diatoms, but now I’ve got a couple whole walls that are brown. Are there any snails that can live in cold water? It seems like all the ones that I see are tropical. I’m somewhat open algae eating fish if there are any for cold water, but I’d rather have a snail. Also… do you quarantine snails before adding them? I’m really nervous to add anything to my tank, Thanks.

The hillstream loach may be what you’re looking for. Like most “algae eaters”, I don’t think they eat all that much algae, though.
